The podcast I've been running with my husband for the past four years brings a lot of joy but I seriously need to learn how to monetise it! The pagan events/markets where we play (we're musicians) to trade are great fun plus I make sales with my books which helps. And usually sign-ups for my newsletter come from these events where talking to people in person is always a pleasure.

Amazing! So, it seems like your business is focused on these events, and when they don’t happen, you don’t make money. That used to be where I was, too, for a long time.

Do you want to monetize the podcast itself, or do you want to pull clients for it? Monetize can mean a lot of things.

Good question. I'm not even sure what monetising it would look like. Maybe it's an audience problem rather than an income one - guess what I've been listening to...

It's just really hard to monetize a podcast. The CPM is likw $25/1000, so until you get to 10,000+ subscriptions there's not a lot of money. There's more in sponsorships, but not for most people.

I think it's best to think of it as an audience problem, even if it will eventually be an income problem...once people listen to a podcast, good things happen, right?

Am I talking to Russell human or Russellbot? Because as we're talking about the podcast, I was going to ask you if you'd like to come on as a guest and riff on your Business Tarot. I am using it all the time and love it!

Russell human, and yes! I'd love to :) email me your booking link and I'd love to come on.

Sorry it's taken me two days to respond to this, I've been mulling it over.

It's a tough question to answer because so much in my life has changed in the last 18 months that I keep rationalizing reasons for why things from the past shouldn't matter to how I move forward.

But, if I'm honest, the two things that have and are growing with ease are my newsletter (even though growth there has stalled a little) and the Substack I started about 6 weeks ago.

It's where I get to be unapologetically myself, share the real parts of me with my readers. It's community and connection, which is where my soul thrives.

Given that I think you're a forest/evangelist with a little aquatic maybe thrown in, I think this makes sense.
